Quest Grand Prix - 4 August 2018

Postby Chris » Sat Aug 04, 2018 5:06 pm

We now have all but a few of the Grand Prix scores in, and checking with the one venue yet to declare we think we can go ahead and publish top line results. While some new names may appear in the top 20, we’re not expecting the top 10, or the medals positions for the genres to change (“famous last words”!). The scores are online (and will be updated) HERE.

In what proved to be a very accessible paper, set for us by Didier Bruyère, it looks like 110 is the “new 100” - since that was the total required get a player in among the top 20% of scores. We had around 50% of the field breaking the ton! Anyway, we’re very grateful to Didier for his set, and we wish him well for his holiday – which is underway in Finland. And let’s hope the midges don’t develop a taste for ‘French cuisine’!

We heartily congratulate Pat Gibson who returns to winning ways, with an impressive total of 136.7, seven points clear of Kevin Ashman (129.7), and Scott Dawson (129.4). Fourth place was taken by David Hesp (122.7) and in fifth place, in a field of c. 140 was Nick Mills (121.2). The top 10 is completed by: 6th, Clive Dunning (120.2 and 19.1), 7th (120.2 and 16.1), 8th Colin Foster (118.9 and 19.0), 9th David Lea (118.9 and 18.0), and 10th Keith Andrew (118.9 and 17.1).

A special shout-out is in order for Colin Foster, for whom I think (tell me if I am wrong) hasn’t previously made the top 10 of a field of today’s size. And he picks up ‘silver’ in Civilisation as well. We must also applaud Kevin’s amazing 30.4 on Civilisation.

Here are the medal positions, by genre.

Gold : 27.6 - Mark Grant
Silver : 27.4 - Kevin Ashman
Bronze: 27.2 - David Hesp

Many thanks to all of the competitors, and of course to the proctors - for your continued support/help. And here’s wishing everyone all the very best for next month’s British Quizzing Championships.
