Local tips

Travel & transport

There are two very local rail stations to Horwich RMI. Blackrod is within walking distance (about 1.5 miles) but is served less frequently than the slightly more distant Horwich Parkway; taxis can be arranged nearer the time to bring groups in from both (with 4 sharing, shouldn’t be more than £1 each), or you can hop on the 575 bus (towards Bolton) at Blackrod - it stops outside Horwich RMI.

Bolton station is much better served railwise. A taxi from there to the venue is about £10 which is about the cost of 4 people getting on a bus operated by First :D . The 575 bus (towards Wigan) runs from directly outside Bolton station to Horwich RMI.

London quizzers are looking at getting the train to Wigan, as it avoids Manchester/Bolton changing, and hopping into a taxi from there to Horwich – I’m sure this can be planned out between you! A local Wigan taxi number is 01942 235235.

You car drivers will already know that Horwich RMI is just a few minutes’ drive from Jct 6 of the M61. Car parking is available at the venue.

Staying over

Horwich has two Premier Inns and a De Vere hotel, all based close to the Reebok Stadium and motorway junction. Central Bolton has a new Travelodge and a Holiday Inn; around and about you’ll find the Britannia (sort of midway between the venue and the town centre), as well as two nice Mercure places with spas.

Carousing

There will be a cultural tour of Bolton on the Friday evening, which may or may not include a photo opportunity with Fred Dibnah, local beer in the (allegedly) 3rd oldest pub in England and all-you-can-eat tapas (as recommended by Quizzing’s own Spanish cuisine correspondent Mr D. Lea).

I'll be there as a debutant (probably on the bus with moodymark if he is who I think!)

Do you need payment before the event, or can I pay on the day?

[It will be good to see you. You can pay on the day if this suits you better. Regards. Chris]

I've just paid by Paypal to the old address (oops). Will I need to pay again? Sorry!

No, it's fine. Just easier for us to get it in one place. Jane xx
