2012 Mahaquizzer

Postby Chris » Fri May 18, 2012 10:55 pm

MahaQuizzer 2012, the eighth edition will be held in Bangalore and several other cities on Sunday 27th May 2012. As usual, the BQA has been able to secure contemporaneous access to the quiz so that we here in the UK can have a go at it the same day as those participating in India (rather than waiting until some time afterwards).

The quiz will require one to answer 150 questions in 90 minutes and, coming as it does the weekend before the World Championships, provides an excellent opportunity for some last minute practise in answering questions of an 'international nature'.

The Rolleston on Dove club (where we held last December's Grand Prix) has once again said we are welcome to quiz there and is even able to provide us with some luncheon. The intention is that we'd kick off the quiz late morning (11.30 ish) and conclude with some lunch around 1.30pm. The modest sum of £7 a head will cover meal and printing costs.

Anyone interested in meeting up to undertake the quiz should drop me a line a.s.a.p. please. I'd like to confirm numbers with the Rolleston club this coming Wednesday evening.

Venue:
Rolleston Club
15 Burnside
Rolleston On Dove
DE13 9DN

Last call for interested parties. I'm visiting the venue this evening and want to be able to give them final numbers for lunch.

I would have loved to, but as I'm already committed to the WQC on June 1st, it would be stretching the forbearance of Him Indoors rather far to be away the Saturday before as well.

Would the questions be available for the interested to peruse afterwards?

Kathryn

Yes Kathryn. They normally go up on the website a week or two after the event but I'll try to remember to bring a copy with me to Lichfield. Chris

That was fun! A nice accessible paper to get the brain warmed up for Lichfield. Many thanks for sorting this out for us, Chris, and note to self: you cannot mutter 'read the damn question' to yourself too many times ...

Absolutely. I must try and think of a A SINGLE WORD that encapsulates that! Chris

Many thanks to the nine members of 'Team Gibson' who came along to simulate a live competition atmosphere to help Pat in his annual drive (invariably successful) to outscore all-comers in the annual MahaQuizzer (India's unofficial national quiz championship). What a delightful task we had to perform.

As fully anticipated, the quiz was chock-full of lovely questions. It was as always a truly enjoyable quiz. Our congratulations to the setters.

For the record Pat Gibson scored 90, including seven '1-star' and four '2-star' tiebreakers (90/7/4).

Pat's sparring partners scored as follows:

78/3/5 : Anne Hegerty
74/4/4 : Chris Jones
72/2/1 : Iwan Thomas
70/6/3 : Barry Simmons
65/5/4 : Martin Croke
57/4/2 : Scott Dawson
51/4/1 : Diane Hallagan

Thanks to everyone who made this possible, and thanks to the Rollestone Club for once again looking after us so well.
