December Grand Prix Results

Postby WiseOldOwls » Mon Dec 09, 2019 11:13 am

All of the December UK Quest Grand Prix scores are in are now online (link at the foot of this piece).

Another year passes and we come to December’s annual British Open, a number of venues around the world joining us for the final Grand Prix quiz of the year. We were delighted to be able to present another quiz by Ewan McNaught, who as well as setting splendid questions hosts our quizzes every month in the Voodoo Rooms in Edinburgh. Ewan delivered another splendid set, full of great questions that allowed the top players to excel, there being some tremendous scores this month.

We had two maximum 30+ genre scores, and plenty more of 29+, a score of 29.5 in Art, Culture, History (ACH) being only good enough for a share of the silver medal. So it’s a shout out to Mark Grant for a score of 30.5 in ACH, and to newly crowned European Quizzing Champion Ian Bayley for his 30.5 in Physical World. We also had 60 people through the milestone 100 point barrier, slightly more than a third of the field (numbering 178 in total). Well done all.

We heartily congratulate Pat Gibson who climbed back to the top of the field with a splendid score of 142.4. Runner up, and just behind Pat, was Kevin Ashman (141.5). Mark Grant was third (140.1), with Didier Bruyère (137.6) and Paul Sinha (136.2) completing the top five.

Here are the medal positions, by genre.

2nd = : 29.5 – Evan Lynch

S&G

Many thanks to all of the competitors, and of course to the proctors - for your continued support/help, and to Ewan once more. Our next UK Grand Prix is the second Saturday in January 2020 (11th). In the meantime, Merry Christmas to you one and all, and have a fantastic, Quiz Olympiad year in 2020.
