The only one of Ken's to fall is Christie. I will narrow the US questions so you do not have to go through all 50! - therefore revised list:

A clue to one of the others is that (purely by coincidence) it is another question that is connected to the USA

1 An American state capital which shares its name with a popular tv family's home town.
2 A team sport.
3 An actor, novelist, film director and screenwriter (with slightly different spelling).
4 A New England state.
5 A town in Berkshire.
6 An unsuccessful candidate for the US presidency.
7 A London mainline railway station
8 A semi retired Irish broadcaster (best known for a long running Irish tv programme).
9 An English group who are best known for their only UK number one from 1970. - CHRISTIE
