Wellesley and Temple are both right, which should help for the link.

Think I may have figured out the connection but will hold fire for the moment ... 2 Small - Petty
8 Flower mentioned by Shakespeare - Primrose (as in the primrose path to the eternal bonfire)

Due to the accuracy of the earlier answers I assumed that people knew the connection but couldn't be bothered so I was about to kill it, but I'll gladly provide clues instead. This is what we have so far:

1. A Song of Innocence - The Lamb
2. Small - Petty
3. One of Seven Sisters - Wellesley
4. Atlantic capital - Stanley
5. Poet Laureate -Cecil Day-Lewis
6. Origin of Hip Hop album
7. Legal area - Temple
8. Flower mentioned by Shakespeare - Primrose
9. Cyclist - Mark Cavendish
10. Not a Christian

Clues for the remaining links:

Origin of Hip Hop Album (I slightly regret the wording of this clue, I perhaps should have said "Classic Hip Hop Album" and just used part of the clue). The origin in question is a town near downtown L.A.

Not a Christian. I'm looking for a person who clearly explained his position on the matter in a famous essay.

I would have thought Google would be very useful for the connection. There is an odd one out, but it's not as obvious as it could be so I think just the connection should do.
